About me & Nosara

A place where I found inspiration

Once upon a time Nosara...

Nestled on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Nosara is a magical heaven where ocean,

jungle, and the art of living come together.

This exceptional destination, infused with a unique energy, boasts four pristine sandy beaches at the heart of a marine sanctuary. Every year, from July to November, this natural refuge welcomes majestic humpback whales and sea turtles returning to these protected waters to complete

their reproductive cycles.

Renowned worldwide for its yoga retreats and some of the best surf spots in Costa Rica, Nosara attracts travelers seeking authenticity and disconnection. Its long Guiones Beach, with immaculate white sand, offers the perfect setting to admire breathtaking sunsets, turning each evening into an unforgettable natural spectacle.

The Legend of Nosara – Why Nosara?

Nestled on the sun-kissed Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Nosara is more than just a name

—it is a place steeped in history, mystery, and natural beauty.

Local legend tells of ancient times when the area was inhabited by indigenous peoples who lived in harmony with the jungle and the sea. They called the land Nosara, which some say comes from the word “nos ara,” meaning “place of abundance” or “bountiful land”, a tribute to the richness of its rivers, forests, and wildlife.

Over the centuries, Nosara has retained its enchanting charm, protected from overdevelopment, preserving its lush landscapes, pristine beaches, and vibrant biodiversity. Today, it is known as a sanctuary for surfers, yogis, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a peaceful escape.

The name Nosara carries the spirit of freedom, adventure, and connection to nature

—a legacy that continues to inspire every visitor who walks its shores.

In Nosara, every sunset, every wave, and every whisper of the jungle reminds us why this land was once called a place of abundance, and why its legend lives on.

My Story

I have always been driven by curiosity, a love of travel, and a deep desire to share meaningful, formative experiences with my children. Being the mother of two sons has taught me that every bond is unique, singular, and built in its own way. In 2019, I felt the need to create a suspended moment in time — a space for discovery and transmission.

This is how the idea of a journey around the world was born.

I experienced this journey with my eldest son, simply because that stage of life made it possible at the time. Yet the project itself was guided by a clear and unwavering intention: one rooted in love, curiosity, and the desire to pass on to my children — each in their own way — an openness to the world, to nature, and to themselves.

Our travels took us through extraordinary landscapes and cultures, until the day we arrived in Nosara, Costa Rica. There, I was deeply moved by the energy of the place. The lush jungle, wild beaches, the power of the ocean, and the harmony between humans and nature awakened an immediate sense of peace, freedom, and clarity within me.

Nosara is truly one of a kind, unlike any other coastal destination in Costa Rica. Everything here invites well-being: yoga centers and alternative healing spaces, conscious and organic cuisine, surfing accessible to all levels, and unforgettable sunsets. The beaches of Ostional, Nosara, Garza, and the famous Guiones — all protected natural reserves — preserve exceptional biodiversity and make this region a true sanctuary for sea turtles, humpback whales, and dolphins.

Upon my return in 2020, guided by my love for the ocean and all living things, I felt a strong calling to anchor myself  in this place. In 2021, Jawa Sanctuary was born. I planted more than 300 fruit trees there, with the intention of creating a living ecosystem that respects nature and welcomes a rich and diverse wildlife.

Coming from the world of high-end event management, this encounter with Nosara profoundly transformed my life path. Today, I devote part of my time to welcoming, with gratitude, travelers, families, and retreat participants who stay at Casa Jawa and Skawak.

These places are spaces for renewal, healing, reconnection with oneself, and transmission.

They embody the values that guide me as a woman and as a mother: respect for all living beings, openness to the world, love in all its forms, and the belief that everyone can find their own path. Here, a true process of transformation often begins — a sincere and deeply moving experience that remains etched in the hearts of those who live it.

With gratitude,
Pura Vida,
Carole
